The customer

The same 300+ person renewable-energy technology company, whose operations span headquarters offices, technical labs, and field locations in the United States and internationally — environments with very different physical constraints and identical business expectations: people show up and everything works.

The problem

Each location had been stood up under deadline by whoever was available, with whatever equipment was on hand. The result was the classic multi-site pattern: different firewall platforms, undocumented closets, connectivity choices nobody could explain, and outage diagnosis that started with twenty minutes of archaeology about how this particular site even worked.

The business risk

For an operations-heavy company, site infrastructure is not back-office — it is the floor the business stands on. Every undocumented site was a single point of failure attached to a single person's memory, and every new location was set to inherit the same debt at the exact moment the company could least afford friction.

The sites did not need heroics; they needed a standard. One network design — firewall platform, switching, Wi-Fi, segmentation — sized per site type, one connectivity playbook with failover, one documentation rule, and one support model, so that every location becomes a known quantity.

What we did

Ironguard designed the site standard and executed it: audited and documented every existing location, remediated the riskiest gaps first, standardized the network platform, and built the site-launch playbook covering circuits, hardware, cabling, and cutover. Critical infrastructure projects — the work that cannot fail — ran with executive-level ownership from plan through result.

The complexity handled

Field environments punish tidy plans: power, distance, weather, and timelines set by operations rather than IT. The standard was built to survive those constraints — and rollout was sequenced around live operations so that infrastructure work never became the reason a site stood still.

The result

Outage diagnosis starts from documentation instead of archaeology. New locations launch on the standard, on schedule, as a checklist rather than a project crisis. And the question that used to haunt expansion — “what will IT cost us at the new site, and will it work?” — now has a written answer before the lease is signed.
